Hague told the Belfast Telegraph that the military will remain in charge to oversee the country’s elections, which are to start on November 28th. He believes the elections should be followed by “the speediest possible transition to civilian democratic rule.”

Egypt’s economy has experienced good growth levels despite the revolution and has seen many large Western companies invest in the country’s economy.

Hague admitted that whilst Egypt has encountered a few problems this year, the country has a very promising future: “We do have these problems in Egypt but elections are about to take place and we have seen successful elections in Tunisia, a new government now being formed in Libya and important reforms are taking place in Morocco and Jordan.”

In an attempt to boost confidence among real estate investors, the Egyptian government has established a committee to look into issues relating to the sale of land and property in the country.

According to a report in PropertyWire, one of the main areas of focus for the panel will be the price at which land was sold under the regime of former president Hosni Mubarak.

There are claims that certain sites were offered at a low price to Egyptian developers, which has caused problems among foreign companies hoping to enter the country’s real estate market.

An official from the committee told the publication that they are trying “to reach a fair settlement by which investment will be safe and the contract respected and at the same time give the government and country their rights”.

After the troubles in Egypt and the rest of the Middle East in recent months, Monarch has put its faith back into the Red Sea with new flights from London Gatwick to Sharm el Sheikh Starting from this winter (3rd November 2011), the flights will operate three times per week on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays and lead in prices will be £173.99 including all taxes and charges.

Kevin George, managing director of Monarch Airlines, commented: “We are delighted to be launching new scheduled flights to Sharm el Sheikh this winter, which follows hot on the heels of our announcement last month to launch flights to the resort for summer 2012. This now means that from November 2011 we will have year-round scheduled flights to the Red Sea resort and further supports our shift to focusing on scheduled flying.”

Flights are available to book right now through until October 2012. The airline is also emphasising that following the recent decision by the Office of Fair Trading, customers will not incur charges for paying with a debit card and there will be a fixed fee for all credit card bookings, no matter the total or number of travellers.

The two jewels of North Africa, Morocco and Egypt have much in common. Their rich histories and similar climates make Morocco, and particularly Marrakech, a popular holiday destination for those living in Egypt. Cheap flights are available between the two countries and no North African tour is complete without a visit to both.

Marrakech is Morocco’s third largest city, only Casablanca and Rabat are larger, and has been a popular holiday retreat for decades. It gained a bohemian reputation, especially during the 1960’s when everyone from Jimi Hendrix to Mick Jagger made this their destination of choice. The city still has a relaxed and almost mystical atmosphere where you can truly relax and feel like you have been transported back to another time.

The city is divided into two main areas, the Medina which is the historical part of Marrakech, and the Gueliz or Ville Nouvelle. The Ville Nouvelle is the modern part of Marrakech, which has been slowly expanding to accommodate more visitors to the area. Here you will find many boutique hotels, designer stores, modern restaurants – everything the modern traveller looks for.

The Medina lies in stark contrast to the Ville Nouvelle, and it is here that you will encounter the real Marrakech. The area’s ancient winding narrow streets and bustling atmosphere is full of local shops and markets selling traditional goods – from perfumes and Oudh, to fabrics and dyes, traditional cuisine and clothing too.

A popular journey from Marrakech is the 10 hour train ride to Tangier. Travelling by train is a wonderful way to take in the beautiful Moroccan countryside, with stunning views all along the route. A great way to get to know the locals travelling with you on the train is to take some food supplies with you and enjoy swapping stories and traditional foods with those on board.

No trip to Marrakech is complete without a trip to its famous souks, or street markets. They lie next to the Place Djemaa El-Fna and you will find anything and everything on sale – from spices to kaftans, ornate hand-crafted teapots to delicious tagines. Be sure to haggle as this is the custom, and enjoy the fabulous colours on display at the spice, dye and textile markets, the sounds of street musicians and the delicious smells emanating from the many traditional food stalls.

The souks are very welcoming to tourists and those used to the more aggressive sellers at the markets of Egypt will enjoy the mellower atmosphere of the Marrakech market environment.

If you enjoy Egypt and would like to see what North Africa has to offer, then the best place to look for holiday deals is online. Travel sites like Octopus Travel make it easy to compare Marrakech hotels – from chain hotels to unique, boutique accommodation, as well as flight prices side by side, making it easy to spot the best deals available.
