Egypt Advice:

Visas and Passports
British visitors arriving in Egypt are required to have valid 10 year passport with no less than 6 months to expiry.

Cost of visa
Tourist £15 single-entry £18 multiple-entry

There are three types of Egyptian Visa:

Tourist Visa - valid for a period not exceeding three months and granted on either single or multiple entry basis.

Entry Visa -is required for any foreigner arriving in Egypt for purposes other than tourism, eg: work, study, etc. The possession of a valid Entry Visa is needed to complete the residence procedure in Egypt.

Transit Visa - Most tourists obtain their Visa upon entry to Sharm El Sheikh.

Visa applications are usually passed out by the airlines prior to landing. You simply fill them in and once you enter the arrival hall you join the usual queue to buy your visa, which is a stamp in your passport. Top tip: Passengers are always bused in from the airplanes; make sure you are near the exit on the bus so that you join the visa queue first! Children need a visa. If they do not have their own passport and are included on a parent's passport and are older than one year old, a separate passport photo of the child will be required. You can also apply to the Egyptian Embassy in London for tourist visas prior to departure if you prefer.

Entry Visa - You need to apply for this prior to departure. These visas are usually valid for one year. This is needed to complete the residence procedure in Egypt and you must be a resident if you purchase a property.

Egypt grants legitimate Foreign Nationals the right for temporary residence in the country. An Ordinary Residence permit is granted for a period of either 3 or 5 years.

Those in possession of a residence permit in Egypt are not required to obtain an entry visa if they leave the country and return to it within the validity of their residence permit or within six months, whichever period is less.
